DVORAK day 8
Oct. 2nd, 2008 06:19 pmAccording to the Touch Typing Test from this site my estimated typing speed in DVORAK is 16WPM with accuracy 96%
Pretty slooow. My QWERTY speed was 69WPM with accuracy of 98%. HOWEVER, I type the same passage so I kind of knew what was coming (but then again, it's not like I had practised it since I typed it in DVORAK. I wonder if knowing what was coming helped me at all even though I didn't type it before. I wonder if my brain was typing in QWERTY while I was typing in DVORAK. Oooh.).
What really messes me up is when I make an omission or addition typo, it ruins a whole string of words because I keep typing and by the time I realize I messed up, I had already typed another word or so. Numbers, symbols and sometimes punctuation mess me up too. The right pinky is responsible for too many things. I don't really have a feel for how far to reach.
For example, if I were to touch type "\" it would be extremely difficult to get it right on the first try. Allow me to demonstrate. ] \
Ok, second try got it! But if I were typing fast, it would probably be very difficult ] <-- see? I just tried it.
According to this site I got this result for QWERTY:
You type 522 characters per minute
You have 96 correct words and
you have 4 wrong words
and this result for DVORAK:
You type 118 characters per minute
You have 18 correct words and
you have 0 wrong words
I wonder how long it would have taken me if I did the hunt-and-peck method. I guess I can't find out now since I know where they keys are located. Any of you who don't know DVORAK want to try and let me know?
Oh wow, time flew by! I have to go to class now!
